Life is costlier
We have to harness the beauty
of the technologies to save our lives
It is so heart
touching and I feel discomfort when I write about 7 of our fishermen are
missing since many days. The boat, Suvarna Tribhuja, left for deep sea fishing off the coast
of Goa on December 13 and the last contact made by it was on December 16.
In spite of the advanced science and technologies, if we are failing means, we
have taken the life for granted. I hope Tribhuja will be back soon.
At back home, let us not sit quietly till another
incident happen. There are satellite phones available now. They are just Rs.
98600/- each. It might look that they are costly. Remember life is still
costlier. They are available all over the country.
Using this phone, fishermen
can happily talk to their family apart from receiving all weather data. It can
act as black box of the
aeroplane. So that the boat can be tracked continuously. Marine Products Export
Development Authority is offering subsidising the satellite phones by 50%. It’s
a back end support. First one has to buy and 50% of the amount will be given to
the beneficiary. The boat owners must broaden their hearts and go for it. Shri
Venkatarao Nadagowda, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries and Animal Husbandry was
here in Udupi on 9 Dec. I have sent the message to our fisheries minister
though director of fisheries Shri Ramakrishna and my good friend G M
Shivakumar. Minister has announced that the awareness camps will be conducted
on use of satellite phone is the boats and the subsidy scheme of MPEDA. Today (10.1.19)
there is a awareness program at Mangaluru. Anyone who reads this message please
circulate among the fishermen you know and ask them to contact MPEDA office at
Attavara, Mangalore for more information. They can even contact me.
